Overhead Cranes for Metallurgy Use

Metallurgical overhead crane can take part in specific process operation in the process of steel production. Its basic structure is similar to the ordinary overhead crane, but it is also equipped with special working mechanism or device. This crane is characterized by frequent use, poor conditions and high working level.

Ladle/casting overhead crane

Casting overhead crane is used for lifting molten iron into mixer, steel-making furnace and continuous ingot casting equipment or ingot mould. The main trolley is used to lift the bucket, and the auxiliary trolley is used to turn the bucket.

Socking pit crane/clamp crane

This kind of crane uses the clamp to lift the high temperature ingot vertically to the soaking pit or take it out and put it on the ingot carrier.

Stripper crane

Stripper crae is used to force the ingot out of the ingot mould. There is a special de ingot device on the trolley, and the de ingot method depends on the shape of the ingot mold: some de ingot cranes press the ingot with the top bar, and lift the ingot mold with the tongs; some press the ingot mold with the tongs, and lift the ingot with the tongs.

Charging crane

Charging crane is used to add charge to open hearth furnace. The lower end of the column of the main trolley is equipped with a pick-up bar to move the material box and send it into the furnace. The main column can rotate around the vertical axis, and the cantilever can swing up and down and rotate. Auxiliary trolley is used for furnace repair and other auxiliary operations.

Forging crane

Forging crane is used for forging large work pieces with hydraulic press. A special tripper is hung on the hook of the main trolley to support and turn the workpiece; the auxiliary trolley is used to lift the workpiece.

Basic Information on Bridge Crane

Bridge crane is a kind of lifting equipment which is used to lift materials horizontally over workshop, warehouse and stock yard. Because its two ends are located on tall concrete columns or metal brackets, the shape is like a bridge. The beam of the bridge crane runs longitudinally along the track laid on the viaduct on both sides, which can make full use of the space under the bridge to lift materials without being hindered by the ground equipment. It is the most widely used lifting equipment.

Bridge crane is generally composed of bridge (also known as crane), lifting mechanism, trolley, crane moving mechanism, control room, trolley conductive device (auxiliary slide line), crane main power conductive device (main slide line), etc.

The hoisting mechanism is composed of hoisting motor, reducer, drum, brake, etc. The lifting motor is connected with the reducer through the coupling, brake wheel, and the output shaft of the reducer is connected with the winding drum of the steel wire rope. The other end of the steel wire rope is equipped with a hook. When the drum rotates, the hook rises or falls with the winding or releasing of the steel wire rope on the drum.

The heavy objects on the hook moves up and down with the rotation of the drum; the trolley moves left and right in the width direction of the workshop, and moves forward and backward with the cart in the length direction of the workshop. In this way, it can realize the movement of heavy objects in the perpendicular, horizontal and vertical directions, move the heavy objects to any position in the workshop, and complete the lifting and transportation task.

Safe Control and Protection of Overhead Crane

1. The heavy objects shall be able to move along the up, down, left, right, front and back directions, and can move simultaneously in the three-dimensional direction. Except for downward movement, the terminals in the other five directions shall be provided with terminal protection;

2.There should be reliable braking device, even in the case of power failure, the weight will not fall due to dead weight;

3.There should be a large speed regulation range. When moving from static state, it should accelerate gradually from the lowest speed, and the acceleration should not be too large;

4.In order to prevent the possible danger of overload or overspeed, there should be short-time overload protection measures. Generally, over-current relay is used as overload protection of circuit;

5.There should be no-voltage protection;

6.There should be safety protection measures.

Notes and Attentions While Operating Crane

1.Each crane must be labeled with the rated lifting capacity at an obvious place;

2.During work, no one is allowed to transport people on the crane or with the hook;

3.Do not drive the crane without operating license or after drinking;

4.During operation, it is necessary to concentrate, not talk, smoke or do irrelevant things;

5.The crane shall be clean; equipment, tools, in-flammables, explosives and dangerous goods shall not be placed around;

6.Crane is not allowed to be used under overload;

7.When the crane is running on the line without obstacles, the hook or sling and the bottom surface of the crane must be more than 2m from the ground;

8.If the obstacle is crossed, it must be 0.5m higher than the obstacle;

9.For bridge crane with main and auxiliary hooks, do not raise or lower the main and auxiliary hooks at the same time (special exception);

10.Inspection or maintenance can only be carried out after power failure and when the sign of power failure operation is hung on the switch. If live working is necessary, safety measures shall be taken for protection and special personnel shall be assigned to take care of it;

11.Limit switch and interlock protection device shall be checked frequently;

12.When there is a problem with the lifting brake, it is not allowed to lift heavy objects;

13.The hoisted objects are not allowed to run over people or equipment;

14.When welding a part of the crane, the ground wire shall be specially set, and the machine body is not allowed to be used as the ground wire;

15.When the hook is at the lower limit position, there must be more than two circles of safety rope on the drum;

16.Cranes are not allowed to collide with each other, and it is not allowed to use one crane to push another crane to work;

17.When lifting heavy objects, liquid metals, explosives and dangerous goods, it is necessary to slowly lift them 100-200mm from the ground to test the reliability of the brake;

18.All electrical equipment casings of bridge crane shall be grounded;

19.Safety technical inspection shall be carried out regularly, and pre inspection and pre repair work shall be done well.

Operation Instruction of Double Girder Overhead Crane

Before work

1.Check the brake, hook, wire rope, safety device and other parts according to the requirements of the spot check card. If any abnormal phenomenon is found, it shall be eliminated first.

2.The operator must confirm that no one is on the walking platform or track before closing the main power supply. When the power circuit breaker is locked or has a notice board, the main power supply can be closed only after the original relevant person removes it.

At work

1.When lifting heavy objects for the first time in each shift (or when the load reaches the maximum weight), the heavy objects shall be put down again after lifting 0.5m from the ground, the brake performance shall be checked, and normal operation shall be carried out after confirming the reliability.

2.The operation shall be carried out according to the command signal specified uniformly.

3.In case of sudden power failure during operation, all controller handles shall be placed at “zero” position, and crane action shall be checked before re-operation.

4.During the normal operation of the crane and trolley, it is strictly forbidden to start the reverse brake to stop; when changing the movement direction of the crane and trolley, the handle must be placed at the “zero” position, so that the mechanism can be started in reverse only after it stops completely.

5.For a crane with two hooks, when the main hook and auxiliary hook are replaced and the height of the two hooks is similar, the main hook and auxiliary hook must be operated separately to avoid collision.

6.The crane with two hooks is not allowed to hoist two objects at the same time; adjust the brake of lifting mechanism when it is not working.

7.It is not allowed to use limit position limiter to stop and adjust the brake of hoisting mechanism under load.

8.In case of any abnormality, stop the machine immediately, check the cause and eliminate it in time.

Strictly implement the system of “no-hoisting”

Do not hoist if command signal is unclear or disorderly;

Do not lift when the rated lifting capacity is exceed;

Do not hoist when improper use of spreader or loose binding of objects exist;

Do not lift if there are people or other floating objects on the lifting objects;

Do not lift if holding brake or other brake safety device fails;

Do not lift when the crane suspends heavy objects for direct processing;

Do not lift explosive objects;

Do not lift buried objects;

Do not lift the objects with edges and corners without pad.

After work

1.Raise the hook to a certain height, stop the crane and trolley at the designated position, and place the controller handle at the “zero” position; pull down the switch handle of the protection box and cut off the power supply;

2.Carry out daily maintenance;

3.Do good job shift handover.
